What To Expect

Being well-prepared for your appointment will ensure that the doctor has all of the needed information to provide the best possible care for you. At your first visit, please bring the completed new patient forms (you may print and fill them out prior to your visit) and any insurance plan information you have. Copies of x-rays taken within the last year are also useful(see below).

It is helpful for us to know when your last dental x-rays were taken and the date of your last cleaning. If you do not know this, and you have insurance, we can call your plan and check on your history. This prevents us from taking unnecessary x-rays as well as allowing us to take the appropriate films you may be due for. If recent films have been taken, we can request copies from your previous dentist.

If you have not had recent films, we usually like to take a full mouth set. This is something we do once every five years, and gives the doctor valuable information about what is going on in between the teeth and under the gumline where we can not visually see.

A complete comprehensive examination will be done, which includes an oral cancer screening, TMJ (the jaw joint) exam, periodontal (the gums) exam, and charting of any existing dental work and any problems you may have. Dr. Goodman will then go over the results with you and discuss any concerns. He will advise you of all of your treatment options, the advantages and disadvantages of each choice, and the cost in time, money and tooth structure for each option.

Dr. Goodman will answer all of your questions and together we will develop a mutually acceptable treatment plan for you. If necessary, or if it would just bring you some additional peace of mind, we can pre-authorize treatment with your insurance before we start any work. Any treatment that needs to be completed, including a cleaning can then be scheduled.
